Neighborhood Garage Sale and Block Party!!

Hi Neighbors!

Recently a few of us discussed the possibility of having a neighborhood-wide garage sale.  Why? Well the hope is that we can pool resources for marketing, and signage.

The date that was decided on is July 23, 2016.

If you are interested in participating there are two ways you can do so:

  1. Have a garage sale at your house.  Contact Marguerite at littlerita2@gmail.com to let me know that you would like your house to appear on flyers/maps advertising the sale--and the rest is up to you!
  2. If you don't have enough stuff, you can bring priced stuff over to my house at 3131 N. Tindle.  Please be fair about your prices and let me know what to do with unsold goods.  My strategy will likely to be to haul any unsold items to Savers or Goodwill, so if you do not share that feeling, you must come back before 5 pm on that day to collect your belongings (and hopefully your profits!)
  3. Talk to your neighbors and pool your resources!
If you wish to have a sale on Friday or Sunday as well, that is fine--let us know and we can make a note of that in any advertising.

After the garage sale, we would like to have a really informal block party.  The plan currently (we'll update this site with changes) is to have it on Miller Street close to the Tindle intersection.  The idea would be for neighbors to wheel out their grills, toys, coolers, and games to the front yard and have a little summer party.  Some ideas would be setting up kiddie pools, corn hole games, trampolines or bounce houses, music, and of course lots of food and drinks.  If this street is too far for you--have one at your own location!! Our hope is for people to get together with neighbors for some good times.  We would love to see everyone, but most important is getting together with neighbors!  At dusk, we will set up our movie projector and screen and have a kid-friendly movie showing.  Last time, the kids brought sleeping bags and we set out our crash pads and there was popcorn and lots of fun.  Parents can socialize--or watch the movie, too!

You do not need to participate in both of these events--but please let me know if you would like to attend one or the other.  littlerita2@gmail.com

We thought the party could start at about 4 pm to give people a chance to clean up from the garage sale.

Hope to see some folks around!

Buffalo Park Adjacent Land Issue

Not exactly Bushmaster-related, but in case anyone is interested.  Whatever your feeling on the issue, you should come out and be heard.

Please come to City Hall October 28 at 6pm to show City Council that we want the 26 acres of land near Buffalo Park preserved as open space for future generations.
At the October 28 meeting Council will be providing the City Manager with direction on whether to develop or preserve 17 City owned properties, including the Schultz Y and 26 acres adjacent to Buffalo Park.
Our presence at this meeting is absolutely critical as it demonstrates our concern for preserving the land and open spaces we all value as being essential to what we love about Flagstaff. We need to pack the house!
City Council members are elected officials and we need to make sure they are making decisions supported by the public (that’s us!) and not voting in favor of development to provide short term solutions with long term implications.

You can help us by:         1) packing the house on October 28!! Power is in numbers here and we need to show Council and the Mayor that we care about the       future of this land!!
2) spreading the word about this important issue (copy, paste, and forward the message above!)
3) writing City Council and the Mayor (council@flagstaff.gov or jnabours@flagstaffaz.gov) asking them to preserve this land
4) signing this petition asking Mayor and Council to preserve the land

Flagstaff Leadership Program Park Work Day Saturday April 27, 2013

Here is the text from an email from someone in the leadership program.

The Flagstaff Leadership Program class of 2013 has taken on an ambitious project to better our community and beautify Bushmaster Park.  There has been much work, planning and preparation preparing for this "Community Volunteer day."  We are hoping to maximize the impact by working together.  All supplies will be available on-site and there will be projects for people of varying physical abilities.    North Country’s Hermosa Vida Program is organizing local students to assist.

We will be working on the dog park, ramada, painting, restoring the horseshoe pit and much more.  Older kids are welcome and it is a great opportunity to share with them the importance (and fun) of volunteering and being involved in your community.  You will meet many local community leaders who are passionate about this town.

Show up with a smile this Saturday and be ready to make Flagstaff even more amazing.
